Rediscovering Fantasy

There isn’t a time in my life where the Fantasy genre hasn’t been a part of my media diet.  Whether through Tv, movies, games, and novels, it’s a genre that has been close to my heart since the day I could walk.  However, I’ve come to realize that I don’t actually remember a lot of the works that I consumed when I was younger.  A few titles come to mind, maybe a couple of plot points, but each time the name R. A. Salvatore or Patrick Rothuss is mentioned, I just shrug.  On one hand, no one really remembers half the media they experienced during their younger years, but there’s still a part of me that feels like I’m missing out in my ignorance.  So I’ve decided to go on a bit of a journey into a genre that I’ve always held so close to my heart and see what exactly I’ve been missing, and I’m hoping you might be willing to come along for the ride.

The idea behind this series is that I’ll pick a particular series, read a bit from it, and then gather my thoughts into a short essay.  While I plan to focus mostly on craft, there are likely to be spoilers for whatever I’m reading, so I’ll put a general spoiler warning for all of my posts in this series for whatever book series I’m talking about.  Exactly how much I’ll be able to read is going to depend on the book and series, but I’m hoping to still put these posts out in a timely matter, around one every two weeks.  What series I decide to read is most likely going to depend on just what I feel like experiencing or what I think would be the most interesting to talk about, so I don’t really have a definitive reading list except for what I’m reading first.  Also, I’ll continue to update this post with links to the individual articles on individual series I’ll be reading, so feel free to skip around to whatever interests you the most.  Now, how about we gather our party, ready our weapons, and take a look at what the fantasy genre has to offer.
